Oklahoma State plays No. 5 seed Texas on Saturday, needing two wins to advance to the championship game. TCU waits for the postseason announcements on Monday. TCU scored three runs in two innings before Phansalkar entered in the third. Phansalkar (6-2) allowed two hits in the third, including an RBI double, but TCU only managed one more hit the rest of the way. Zach Ehrhard and Griffin Doersching added two RBIs for Oklahoma State. TCU was without coach Kirk Saarloos, who was suspended for two games by the NCAA after his ejection on Thursday.

DETROIT — The Tigers and Guardians baseball game Friday night was postponed because of inclement weather.

BOSTON — The light at the end of the tunnel is finally visible for Chris Sale.

TAMPA, Fla. — With their second-round sweep of the Panthers, the Lightning earned themselves some time off before the start of the Eastern Conference final, which likely will open Monday or Wednesday in Raleigh or New York.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Josh Donaldson is going to be out for a while longer. The third baseman who recently had to apologize to White Sox shortstop TIm Anderson and the Jackie Robinson family for what were at the very least insensitive remarks was placed on the injured list with shoulder inf…

DALLAS — Luka Doncic wore an outlandish pair of Mavericks shorts, a rainbow-lined hat and a pair of sunglasses hooked to his T-Shirt as he spent part of Friday at the team practice facility, wrapping up his fourth NBA season.

Ajdin Hrustic became a Europa League champion with Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville this month while Tom Rogic won the Scottish Premier League with Celtic FC.  The Socceroos’ qualification hopes come down to a playoff match against United Arab Emirates on June 7 at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha. If Australia wins that match, it will play Peru on June 13 at the same ground.

Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler is tied for the lead after the second round at Colonial with Scott Stallings and Beau Hossler. A Colonial-record eight players shared the lead after the first round. But it was Scheffler, Stallings and Hossler atop the leaderboard at 9-under 131 after all shot bogey-free rounds Friday. Stallings shot a 64 to share the lead just days after he qualified for the U.S. Open that will be played less than an hour from where he was born in Massachusetts. Dallas-area resident Sheffler and former University of Texas player Beau Hossler both shot 65.

CINCINNATI — A couple hours before first pitch here Friday, players from the Giants and Reds met in the outfield. These were not your typical pregame greetings: Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham had an apparent beef to settle.

Friday night’s game between the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals was postponed due to severe storms forecast for the Washington, DC region. The game will made up at 12:05 p.m. Saturday as part of split doubleheader. Saturday’s originally scheduled game has been moved from 4:05 to 6:05 p.m. Rain was not falling when an announcement of the postponement was made in the press box at 6:40 p.m., 25 minutes before first pitch. A chorus of boos greeted an announcement that was made in the stadium about 10 minutes later.

Heat guard Tyler Herro remained sidelined because of a strained left groin as Miami tries to stave off elimination in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals. The reigning sixth man of the year hasn’t played since Game 3 of the Heat’s matchup with the Celtics. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra says Herro has made progress and wants to play, but that this was deemed to be the most responsible decision. Boston coach Ime Udoka says Marcus Smart (sprained right ankle) and Robert Williams III (left knee soreness) are both game time decisions.

Josh Donaldson was placed on the 10-day injured list by the New York Yankees due to right shoulder inflammation. New York made the move retroactive to May 24. The 36-year-old third baseman had been on the COVID-19 injured list and has not played since Sunday. Because the COVID-19 list does not count against the 40-man roster, the Yankees opened a roster spot by tranferring Chad Green to the 60-day injured list. Donaldson was sidelined by right shoulder inflammation while with Toronto from April 11 to May 3, 2018.

Adam Cecere was 4 for 4 with two home runs, Brendan Tinsman added four RBIs, and Wake Forest matched an ACC Tournament record with seven homers in a 16-3 victory over No. 3 seed Miami. Both teams went 1-1 in pool play and will wait until Monday for the NCAA selections. Wake Forest (40-17-1) reached the 40-win plateau for the seventh time in program history. Miami (39-18) was outscored 25-9 at the tournament. Cecere was one of two Wake Forest players to homer in a six-run third inning, and he was part of back-to-back-to-back shots in a four-run sixth. Tinsman and Nick Kurtz hit three-run homers in consecutive innings for a 9-2 lead.

A person familiar with the negotiations tells AP that David Njoku has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Cleveland Browns. Njoku, who figures to have a more prominent role in this season, will be among the NFL’s highest-paid tight ends, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the sides were still finalizing the package. Financial terms were not immediately known. A first-round pick in 2017, Njoku has had an eventful stay in Cleveland. Two years ago, he asked to be traded but has become a dependable player and now a core piece for a team with Super Bowl ambitions.

Mets reliever Yoan López has had his three-game suspension cut to one game and was set to serve the penalty when New York played the Philadelphia Phillies. López was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse before the game and had to immediately sit out at Citi Field. Mets manager Buck Showalter said the suspension had been reduced. López had appealed after Major League Baseball ruled that he intentionally threw at Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber on May 1. The pitch came an inning after Mets star Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch. López was sent to the minors after the game. The 29-year-old righty has pitched twice in relief for the Mets this year, allowing three runs in two innings.

Second-seeded Rutgers wasted all of a stellar start from Nathan Florence before getting a sacrifice fly from Richie Schiekofer in the top of the 10th inning to beat No. 6 seed Penn State 5-4  in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. Rutgers (43-14) set a program record for victories in a single season in advancing to Saturday’s nightcap. The Scarlett Knights opponent will be determined by play earlier Saturday. Penn State (26-28) will play an elimination game against No. 3 seed Iowa in Saturday’s first game.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tommy Pham and San Francisco Giants outfielder Joc Pederson were involved in a brief altercation before a series opener at Great American Ball Park. While the Giants were warming up in the outfield, Pham confronted Pederson in the outfield during pregame warmups. The pair quickly were separated and no punches were thrown. The incident was witnessed by reporters and occurred before fans entered the ballpark. Giants manager Gabe Kapler said he will not comment until he learns more about what happened.

Ryan Ritter was 3 for 5 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the seventh inning, and 12th-seeded Kentucky beat No. 8 seed Vanderbilt 10-2 in the SEC Tournament. Kentucky, which is slated to play in another elimination game on Saturday, has won multiple conference tournament games for the first time since 2014. Vanderbilt awaits the NCAA selections on Monday. Ritter doubled in the second inning and later scored on Oraj Anu’s 100th career hit for a 1-0 lead. Ritter added an RBI single in the fifth and bounced a shot off the wall in the seventh to cap the scoring. Adam Fogel also had three hits and Hunter Jump added two RBIs for Kentucky.

San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler says he will refuse to take the field for the U.S. national anthem in a protest over the nation’s political direction following this week’s school shooting in Texas. Kapler says he needs more time to consider specific actions he might suggest be taken to prevent more tragedies of this type, such as stronger gun control laws. He has also used his personal blog to discuss the deaths of 19 children and two teachers during the shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

LOS ANGELES — It begins with the first chords of "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses, Slash's opening guitar riff echoing around Dodger Stadium.

NEW YORK — It was not long ago that the baseball world cast an eye of confused suspicion on the Yankees.

Chip Ganassi's team won its fourth Indianapolis 500 a decade ago and nothing since. That is an unacceptable drought for the team owner. He heads into Sunday's race with five drivers,  starting with pole-sitter Scott Dixon and reigning IndyCar champion Alex Palou. The duo starts first and second in a Ganassi contingent that includes Jimmie Johnson. The seven-time NASCAR champion is making his Indy 500 debut. Helio Castroneves is going for a record-setting fifth victory and second in a row. This is the first Indy 500 since 2019 that will be at capacity and more than 300,000 are expected.

NEW YORK — The Jalen Brunson sweepstakes started with more confidence from the Mavericks.

DALLAS — It all ended in San Francisco Thursday night, but let’s not pretend there is an underlying sadness or failure on the part of the Mavericks this season. Let’s recognize for a moment what they were battling out west.

Former All-Star pitcher Carlos Martínez has been suspended for 80 games under baseball’s minor league drug program following a positive test for the performance-enhancing substance Ibutamoren, which increases Human Growth Hormone. The 30-year-old right-hander signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox on May 7. Martínez made a pair of starts for Triple-A Worcester, going 0-2 with a 20.77 ERA in 4 1/3 innings. He was released on May 17. Martínez pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals from 2013-21, going 62-52 with a 3.74 ERA.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Shohei Ohtani was on the mound, Mike Trout was batting in front of him in the lineup, the Angels had the third-best record in the American League … and half of the seats were empty.

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State’s ascent to the top of the NBA was fueled by the three.

Scott McCarron and Stephen Ames had 5-under 66 second rounds at the Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores to take the early lead with an 8-under 134. McCarron had eight birdies and Ames had six birdies in his final 11 holes. Rookie money-leader Steven Alker, PGA Tour Champions legend Bernhard Langer, Brian Gay and Mike Weir were in second place at 6-under 136. The weather played a role in Friday's scores, going from sunny to rain and wind.

CINCINNATI — A few hours before one of the Giants’ most thrilling baseball games in recent memory, manager Gabe Kapler struck a solemn tone in the dugout.

PITTSBURGH — Omar Khan, a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan who realized at a young age he should try to be the next Jim Finks and not Archie Manning, said his dream came true when he was named the Steelers' new general manager.

No. 1 Iga Swiatek looks to extend her 30-match winning streak as third-round matches continue on Day 7 at the French Open. Swiatek faces 95th-ranked Danka Kovinic at Court Philippe Chatrier. The 20-year-old Polish player has the longest winning streak in women’s tennis since Serena Williams won 34 matches in a row in 2013. No. 3 Paula Badosa takes on No. 29 Veronika Kudermetova at Court Suzanne Lenglen. In the men’s draw, No. 2 Daniil Medvedev looks to advance against Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia. The Russian is getting more comfortable on the Roland Garros clay. He reached the quarterfinals last year after four consecutive first-round exits. No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Swedish player Mikael Ymer. Tsitsipas was the runner-up a year ago.

Belmont Stakes contenders Mo Donegal, Next and We the People all worked out Friday in preparation for the third jewel of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown in two weeks. Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher had Mo Donegal and Nest work in company for the $1.5 million race on June 11. The colts went five-furlongs in 1:02.99, followed by an extended three-eighths gallop out. Mo Donegal was fifth in the Kentucky Derby. Nest finished second to Secret Oath in the Kentucky Oaks on May 6. We the People won the Peter Pan in his last start.

Rafael Nadal will see a familiar face in the opposite corner for his fourth-round match at the French Open. That's because his uncle, Toni, who is also his former coach, is now working with Nadal's next opponent, 21-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime. All three of them knew this was bound to happen once Toni Nadal and Rafael Nadal ended their professional relationship and began working with a promising player. If Nadal beats Auger-Aliassime, he could play Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Both Nadal and Djokovic have won every set they've played in Paris this year and both have dropped a total of just 23 games so far. Three American women reached the fourth round: Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova and Sloane Stephens.

If you’re looking for some excitement, forget about the NBA playoffs. They’ve been a total snooze, filled with blowouts and only a handful of must-see moments. The lack of drama has been especially striking when compared to the NHL postseason, which has produced one thrill after another. Games 7s? Check. Overtime goals? Check. Fierce rivalries? Check. Once again, hockey’s playoffs are proving to be the most compelling show in all of sports, leaving hoops and most everything else in their wake. That was apparent again late Thursday night, then Edmonton finished off Calgary with an overtime goal.
