If you can spend an extra $30, then the heavily discounted Omni Series Fire TV (pictured) is a better choice than Amazon's similarly discounted Series 4 Fire TV. (Photo: Amazon)
Have you heard of the "big sale"? Prepare for the Fire TV sale. Although there are still a few weeks to go until Black Friday, Amazon has just lowered the price of four large screens. They are all smart and brand new.
I literally mean "new brand": just a few months ago, Amazon launched the 4 series and the Omni series, the company's first TV. (Best Buy’s Insignia brand has been doing this for some time.) These discounts have been competitive prices and represent some considerable savings.
Okay, but what is the difference between these two series, which of the four models should you choose? Let me arrange the transaction for you and return the answer.

The first thing: Obviously, your budget and available space will be the main determinants of which series and size you choose.
If you don't think about space, you will never regret choosing a larger screen. Either way, the price of the 4 series and the Omni series is only $30-if this doesn't break you, I recommend the latter.
Why? Although the two series are very similar, especially in these sizes (65-inch and 75-inch Omni models add image-enhanced Dolby Vision to the mix, but that specification is not available here), Omni has a few key points Point to stand out from the crowd—start with hands-free Alexa.
This means you can say "Alexa, turn on the TV" or "Alexa, go to Netflix" without touching anything. In other words, Omni works like an Amazon Echo smart speaker or display. For the 4 series, you must pick up the remote control, press the button, and then speak your command.
So sad! Well, it's not true, but the great convenience brought by the fully hands-free Alexa experience is beyond doubt. The Omni series also has a physical button that you can press to disable the microphone, just in case you have privacy concerns.
Other Omni advantages: Picture-in-picture support, for example, viewing Ring video doorbell feeds while watching a show, and USB webcam support for Zoom and other video calls. (Of course, almost all TVs can achieve this through products such as Facebook Portal TV.)
good question! Amazon's Fire OS is built into these and other TVs (and Fire TV streaming sticks) and provides a user interface for accessing all the different streaming applications (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon's own Prime Video, etc.).
In fact, I found the Roku interface to be easier to understand and navigate, but Fire OS offers a big advantage: games. Using a TV remote or a separately sold game controller, Fire TV allows you to play Candy Crush, Crossy Road, dozens of Jackbox party games, and more.
On the other hand, Roku supports AirPlay and Google Cast, while Fire TV does not. You can mirror your phone or tablet to Fire TV to show off photos, etc., but it's not easy or convenient.
Alas, I have not personally experienced any new TVs from Amazon, but I have seen mostly positive comments from customers and professionals. There is no doubt that these are budget models, but they are definitely sufficient for daily entertainment.
If you want something bigger, stay tuned: they are not discounted right now, but I'm pretty sure the 65- and 75-inch Omni series models will go on sale soon.
