Sports briefs: UAlbany softball’s Jimenez honored – The Daily Gazette

UAlbany softball’s Maranda Jimenez was named the America East Player of the Week.

In five games last week, Jimenez batted .471 with two home runs among her six extra-base hits and drove in five runs. She had a 1.059 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. With two home runs, she totaled six extra-base hits, five RBI, and five runs. 

This is Jimenez’s second conference award of the season and fifth of her career,

RPI’S GARMAN TOP TRACK PERFORMER

RPI’s Grace Garman was named Liberty League Women’s Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

At last weekend’s Williams College Invitational, Garman finished first in the javelin with a toss of 30.86 meters. She finished second in the discus with a throw of 30.50 meters.

RPI men’s tennis player Aiden Drover-Mattinen was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive time.

Drover-Mattinen played in two of the team’s three matches last week and posted a 4-0 record, going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 at doubles.

THREE SUNY COBLESKILL TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES RECOGNIZED

Three SUNY Cobleskill track and field athletes were honored by the North Atlantic Conference.

Tyler Brado earned Men’s Track & Field, Field Event Athlete of the Week. At the Cortland Upstate Alternative Meet, the OESJ graduate won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 3-4 inches to meet the Atlantic Regional Championships qualifying standard.

Eamonn Sullivan was named Men’s Track & Field Track Rookie of the Week. Sullivan won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Cortland Upstate Alternative Meet in a school-record time of  9:40.79 to qualify for the Atlantic Regional Championships.

Lilah Ward was the Women’s Track & Field Track Rookie of the Week. Ward was fourth in the high jump at the Cortland Upstate Alternative Meet with a leap of 4 feet, 9 inches.
